Death

Della Madelene Furr Petrea, 100 years of age, of Locust, NC went to her Heavenly Home on Thursday morning, January 11, 2018. Mrs. Petrea was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Locust. She loved singing with the choir for many years. She was also known for making chicken dumplings, flowers and her sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband, David A. Petrea; two sons, Carl Petrea and Larry Petrea; sister, Doris Drye and brother J.C. "Jr" Taylor; as well as grandson David Downer. She is survived by her loving daughters, Shirley (James) Baucom and Sylvia (Ronnie) Downer. Granddaughters, Debbie (Alan) Love, Sherry (Jeff) Honrine, and Stephanie (Chad) Lowder. Five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. As well as her sisters, Geneva Mullis and Novella Poplin. Mrs. Petrea's service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 14th, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Locust, officiated by Rev. Dr. Tommy Ross and Rev. Dr. Kinney Wallace. The family will receive friends prior to her service from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 320 S. Central Ave., Locust, NC 28097. The family would like to extend their gratitude to those that helped with her care, at Stanly County Home Health and Novant Hospital in Matthews. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Petrea family.
