Notes
Death
Charles Franklin Furr, 82, died on December 16, 2022, in Wilmington, N.C. He was born on October 23, 1940, in Charlotte, N.C. son of Max Franklin Furr and Gladys Todd Furr. He grew up in Wilmington, N.C. and attended Winter Park Elementary. During his time at New Hanover High School, Frank was the Battalion Commander of ROTC. He also met Martha Norman Allegood at NHHS, whom he married and shared over fifty-eight happy years of marriage. Frank attended Wilmington College (now UNCW) for two years and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Following graduation, He served in the United States National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves. Frank began his career in sales with Del Monte foods in western North Carolina and pharmaceutical products in Virginia. He joined First Union National Bank in Charlotte, NC as a Trust Officer in 1974. In 1982, Frank began working in Executive Search with a focus on the banking industry and became Principal of C.F. Furr & Company in 1984. He and Marty relocated his company to his hometown of Wilmington in 1999. Frank was a kind, good, honest man with a strong Christian faith. He served as Deacon and Elder at both First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte and First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington. He was a Stephen Minister and served on the Boards at Good Shepherd Ministries and the Clark James Foundation. He took his responsibilities seriously and was a good role model. And he always enjoyed a good joke with his many friends. Frank had great passion for his beloved Tar Heels and enjoyed following UNC basketball and football games throughout his life. That might be an understatement. He was a good tennis player and enjoyed golf, boating, and fishing. Frank and Marty enjoyed traveling together and being with their grandchildren. He was always optimistic about the future and grateful for his many friends and family. An annual Allegood family gathering in Montreat during the Fall was a special tradition for him. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother James Wilson Furr. He is survived by his wife Marty; son Charles Furr, Jr. and his wife Frances of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter Celeste Hyde and her husband Will of Chapel Hill, N.C. Also surviving are grandchildren James Carlton Furr, Frances Elizabeth Furr, William Allegood Hyde, and Camilla Woodhouse Hyde. He is also survived by a brother, Max Todd Furr, brother-in-law Carlton Allegood and his wife Connie. The family thanks the entire staff at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare and Dr. Chris Cosgrove for the special care they provided to Frank. We are also grateful to Suzette deGuerehery, Susan Shaw, as well as friends and neighbors. A memorial service will be on January 7 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church at 125 S. 3rd Street, Wilmington NC 28401, Good Shepherd Center at 811 Martin Street, Wilmington NC 28401, or Lower Cape Fear Lifecare at 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington NC 28401.Endnotes
