Death

CONCORD - Peggy Jean Furr Hunter, 76, of 283 Elm Ave. N.W., died Monday, March 3, 2008, at CMC-NorthEast, Concord. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at New Testament Independent Baptist Church, Concord, with the Rev. Bobby Utley officiating. Her body will lie in state 30 minutes at the church. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home. Mrs. Hunter was born June 30, 1931, in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Willis James Furr and the late Myrtle Marlow Furr. She worked for Cannon Mills Plant 10, weave room, for 15 years. In later years, she worked with her son and husband cleaning various businesses in Cabarrus and Rowan counties. She was a member of New Testament Independent Baptist Church, where she was active in many church activities including being in charge of ordering flowers and cards for church members and was a "prayer warrior" of the church. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Furr Yates and Claudette Furr Ervin. Survivors include her husband, Boyce A. Hunter, who she married on June 11, 1949; sons, Mike Hunter and wife, Kathy, and Terry Hunter and wife, Bonnie, both of Kannapolis; granddaughters, Amy Bostian and husband, Alan, of Warner Robbins, Ga., Sarah Hunter and friend, Matt Icard, of Kannapolis and Kathryn Hunter and fiance, Nathan Murph, of Landis; grandson, Michael Hunter and friend, Susan Sanders, of Bluffton, S.C.; great-grandson, Caleb Bostian of Warner Robbins, Ga. The family headquarters will be at the home. Memorials may be made to New Testament Independent Baptist Church, 5140 Irish Potato Road, Concord, NC 28025.
