Death

PORTAGE — Wilmer B. Furr, 55, of Portage, passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, 1993 at his home. He was born July 2, 1938, in Hopewell, Va., to Leah Walker (Wells) and Bennie Bethea Furr. A Portage resident for 22 years, formerly of Austin, Texas, he was married October 2, 1983, in Portage to Esther (Zell) Archer. He was a 1984 graduate of Portage Adult Education Center and attended several courses Ivy Tech. He was employed as millwright with LTV Steel in the B.O.F. with 26 years of service, and was a member of United Steel Workers Union Local 1011. Surviving are wife Esther of Portage; sons Wilmer B. Jr. and Neil B. Furr; one daughter, Deborah J. Furr, all of Texas; stepson Phillip (Susan) Archer of Chesterton; step daughter Linda (Archer) Johnson of Valparaiso; three step-grandchildren; brothers Bennie B. (Polly) Furr of Petersburg, Va., Donald E. (Sue) Furr of Great Falls, Va.; sisters Barbara Hancock and Gloria (Marion) Morton, both of Richmond, Va.: mother-in-law Eva Zell of Valparaiso; aunt, Lena Furr; uncle, Irc (Clyde) Furr, both of Hopewell, Va.; special friends Rick Waters of Valparaiso and Maria Escobedo of Portage. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1993, at 2 p.m. at Engel Funeral Home, with Pastor Loren Rentschler of Calvary Temple officiating. Interment Blake Cemetery, Portage. Friends may call on Monday, Sept. 20, 1993, 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Engel Funeral Home, located at 2700 Willowcreek Road, Portage.
