Death

Mrs. J. M. Furr passed away at her home in the Rhea's Mill community in Northwest Collin Friday morning about 11:30 o'clock following a twelve day illness. She was born October 16, 1861 in Stanley County, North Carolina, being 81 years 4 months and 3 days old at the time of her pasting. She was the daughter of Evan and Christina Dry, her maiden name being’ Martha Ann Christina Dry. Mrs. Furr came to Texas forty-six years ago; three years later moving to Collin County. For the past thirty years she had resided at Rhea's Mill, taking an interest in the activities of that community. She was a faithful member of the Baptist Church there. December 23, 1879, she became the wife of James Martin Furr, her companion for sixty-three years and to which union thirteen children were born. Twelve of these children grew to useful manhood and womanhood, following in the footsteps of their Christian parents who had set an example of honor for them. All of them continued to reside in this county except one son, whose home is in Dallas. The first great sorrow came to the family when a son. Rufus Furr, prominent McKinney business man, passed away a few years ago. An infant daughter also preceded her in passing. Surviving are her husband and the following children: Jason Furr of Frisco; John A. Furr, A. Lee Furr, C. Fletcher Furr, Clarence L. Furr, all of Route 4, McKinney; Robert N. Furr, Route 1, McKinney; DeWitt T. Furr, Dallas; Mrs. Ila J. Jenkins, Route: 3, McKinney; Mrs. Hattie A. Ragsdale, Mrs. Lottie M. Bryant, Route 4, McKinney and Mrs. Rubve M. Woods, wife of Kali Woods, prominent McKinney business man. Thirty-one grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren also survive. Nephews who survive are Ralph and Hal Dry of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Asher Dry of Chicago, IL. Funeral services were held at the Rhea's Mill Baptist Church Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock conducted by Rev. Jesse Bolin, Dr. R. A. Clifton and Rev. H. B. Gideon. Interment was made in the Pecan Grove Cemetery in this city with the Helms Funeral Home of Celina in charge of the burial. Pallbearers were Malcolm Bryant, Clarence G. Furr, Roy Jenkins, Truett Furr, Fred Jenkins and Floyd Johnson, Jr. all grandsons of the deceased. The passing of Mrs. Furr has caused a pall of sorrow over the county where she was well known. She was kind and loving in disposition and possessed the friendship of every acquaintance. She loved the companionship of her family and was always happiest when in their presence. The family is a highly esteemed one of Northwest Collin and the Furr home was the scene of many happy family gatherings. The large group of sorrowing friends and the profusion of beautiful flowers that covered the bier are mute testimonials to the love and esteem in which the deceased was held.
