Death

Impressive funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church for the late R. A. Furr, who died at the City Hospital here early Friday morning. Mr. Furr was one of this county's outstanding business men, having been engaged in the grocery business in McKinney for the past twenty years and was a mail carrier for thirteen years before that. He was highly esteemed which fact was attested to by the large crowd attending the obsequles and the profusion of beautiful flowers which covered the bier. Dr. R. A. Clifton, Pastor of the Church, conducted the service, being assisted by Rev. G. O. Key, local Baptist minister and Prof. W. S. Smith, who is teacher of the Business Men's Bible Class and which class the deceased had been an active member and leader. Burial was made in Pecan Grove Cemetery with the Crouch Funeral home of this city in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were R. P. Durham, P. R. Westmoreland, Johnny Snapp, Taylor Gabe Kerby, Bill Gambrell, R. E. Beasley and Bill Finney. Mr. Furr passed away after two weeks illness, having undergone an appendicitis operation. A week after the operation he suffered a heart attack since which time his condition has been erotica. He is survived by his grief-stricken wife, the former Miss Mattie Pearl Rice; one daughter, Miss Maddie Lee Furr, who is a teacher in the public schools of Gladewater; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Furr, pioneer couple of the Rhea's Mill community and the following brothers and sisters; Jason Furr of Frisco: Mrs. Milford Jenkins of McKinney: Mrs. Hattie Ragsdale, John Furr, Lee Furr, Fletcher Furr, Clarence Furr, all of Rhea’s Mill; Robert Furr of Foote; Mrs. Gene Bryant of Walnut Grove; DeWitt Furr of Dallas and Mrs. E. L. Wood of McKinney. A number of nephews and nieces also survive. The death of Mr. Furr was the first in his family in fifty-seven years.
