Death

Funeral services were conducted in Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon for Rev. Kemp Lee Plowman, 83, of 815 Smith Street, Albemarle, a retired employee of Wiscassett Mills Company and retired minister. Rev. Sam Lesley, former pastor, and Rev. R. L. McDaniel, pastor, officiated and interment was in the church cemetery. Grandsons served as active and honorary pallbearers. Mr. Plowman died at 2:10 p.m. Thursday in Cabarrus Memorial Hospital. He was born July 3, 1903, in Union County and was a son of the late William Garfield and Emma Bass Plowman. He was a member of Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church. Mr. Plowman is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Furr Plowman of the home; four sons, Lloyd Plowman and James Plowman, both of Albemarle, Ray Plowman of Richfield and Car] Lee Plowman of Pensacola, Florida; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Ruth Loflin of Nokomis, Florida, and Mrs. Emma Jewel Wood of the home; two brothers, Charlie Plowman of Azel, Texas, and William Garfield Plowman, Jr., of Carthage; five sisters, Mrs. Willie Goodman and Mrs. Nellie Goodman, both of Route 3, Albemarle, Mrs. Pink (Rachel) Smith and Mrs. Margie Huneycutt, both of Albemarle, Mrs. Roy (Ernest) Poplin of Route 1, Albemarle; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
