Death

On September 10, 2012 Heaven gained an angel. Eugene R. Furr, loving husband of Lynn Furr of nearly four decades, adored father of Michele Farrar husband Ken, Heidi Winslow husband Tim, Brigit Hull husband Tim, Joshua Furr, Seth Furr, Nathan Furr, Brandalyn Furr and grandfather of 9, peacefully passed away to spend eternity with his Creator. He will be mournfully missed and remembered fondly by all. Please join us at his Memorial Service on Friday, Sept. 14, from 6:00-8:00pm at 4401 Dewees Ct., Raleigh, NC 27612.

Eugene "Gene" Furr, 77, of Raleigh, NC, and long time California resident, passed away Sept. 10, 2012. Lynn Furr, his wife of 37 yrs. and his many children were at his bedside. A memorial service will be held on Nov. 16, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Bidwell Presbyterian Church. Gene is survived by his wife of 37 yrs., Lynn Furr; his seven children: Michele Farrar and Brigit Hull of Chico, CA; Heidi Winslow of Wrightsville Beach, NC; and Joshua Furr, Seth Furr, Nathan Furr, and Brandilynn Furr of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by five sisters and two brothers, including California residents, Iola Ireland, Iona McCain, Tony Furr and Will Furr. Gene was also blessed with nine grandchildren. Gene Furr was born in Tampa, FL to Ralph and Elva Furr on Jan. 15, 1935. His family migrated to Northern California in 1946 and eventually settled in Chico. Gene graduated from Chico High School in 1954 and received a B.S. in Biology from Chico State College. Gene was a great athlete and lettered in football, track and field, and boxing. He also loved horseback riding, hunting, and golf. He ran marathons, and even tried playing Polo while living in Hawaii. His primary vocation was commercial real estate. He lived the last 32 years in North Carolina raising 3 sons and a daughter with his second wife, Lynn. He had three daughters with his first wife, Linda Brunelle of Chico. Later in life he enjoyed golf with his friends (especially his Chico buddies), attending church, attending NC state football and basketball games with his children, being an avid NC state fan. He was known for his infectious laugh, sense of humor, colorful stories and an adventure filled life. His family and friends will miss him deeply. Gene's family wish to invite all who knew and cared about Gene Furr, to attend his memorial service. Because of Gene's love of sports and his spending "golden years" at Chico High School, family and close friends request that a donation be made in Gene Furr's name to Chico High Foundation - New Stadium, in lieu of flowers.
