Death

ALBEMARLE — Mr. Furr, 90, died Sunday, February 1, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 4th at First Lutheran Church, Albemarle. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the church parlor on Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. Mr. Furr was son of the late Carrie Byrd Furr and Prince Alexander Furr, and the widower of his late beloved wife, Lelia Frances Ausband Furr. He was a superintendent with American & Efird Mills, a member of First Lutheran Church, the Albemarle Lions Club, and past board member of Stanly Memorial Hospital. He was the organizer and leader of the Tarheel Club Orchestra in the “Big Band” era of the 1930's and a member of Prince Furr’s Nehi String Band in the 1920's. This family band was selected to play at three National Nehi Bottling Conventions. Mr. Furr is survived by his daughter, Priscilla Furr Gerlach of Roswell, GA; grandchildren, Jenna Gerlach and Alyssa Gerlach, both of Roswell; brother, Thaddeus “Thad” Furr of Albemarle, NC and Rayvon Furr of New London, NC; niece, Debra Furr; nephews, Tim Morton, Max Pennington, Ken, Alex, Sonny, and Johnny Furr; beloved grand nephews, Devron, Mark, and David Furr; beloved cousin, Ted Penny Furr; and beloved friend, Gilbert Pickler. In addition to his parents, and wife, Mr. Furr was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Furr and three sisters, Gladys Gobble, Jettie Bell Morton and Irene Brantley.
