Lillie Mae FURR

Lillie Mae was the eldest of two daughters born to George and Dessie Furr. Her sister Mary Lee died as an infant. Lillie met Wade Linebarrier while at work in Cannon Mills #1 spinning room in Kannapolis, NC. They were married in 1927 in Bennettsville, SC. Wade was a musician and taught Lillie to play the Tenor Banjo. They teamed with his brother Robert and his wife Mary to form a string band. Wade played the fiddle, Lillie the tenor banjo, Robert the guitar and Mary the tenor ukulele. In 1932, during the Depression, the four of them went to Washington, DC with a WW 1 veteran, Steve Murray. Steve had been in Oregon when he met Walter W. Waters who led the Bonus March to Washington. They camped out in the Anacostia Flats with the thousands of army veterans and their families. Their bands name was THE B.E.F. STRING BAND. This was for the Bonus Expeditionary Forces. They were there about a week when President Hoover ask General Douglas McArthur to run the Veterans and all those with them out. He did this by tear gas and burning their huts, tents and other living quarters. Lillie and Wade returned home to their two children and their jobs with Cannon Mills. They eventually had a total of six children. Wade was called to preach and the family moved around quite often. First to Union County, then back to Lilac Ave. between Kannapolis and Concord, near Winecoff school. They lived in Franklinton, NC, Asheboro, NC, Lenoir, NC, Albemarle, NC and finally back to Asheboro where he died Jan 13, 1968. On Nov. 6, 1976 Lillie Married Joseph Branson Blair. Joe love to play golf and he taught Lillie how to play. Their retirement years was spent on the golf course. Joe died Dec. 26, 1987. Lillie is a retired nurse and still living in the house her and Wade bought in 1951.

Death
ASHEBORO - Lillie Furr Linebarrier Blair, 92, of 1468 Lake Country Drive, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at her home. The funeral service will be Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with the Rev. Don Hurlburt, the Rev. Paul Griffin and the Rev. Tim Isley officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.She was born March 17, 1913, in Cabarrus County, the daughter of George and Dessie Burleyson Furr. While the wife of Wade Linebarrier, a minister in the Pilgrim Holiness Denomination, she was involved with him during the 1940s in churches at Macedonia PH Church in Stanley County, The Union Cross PH Church in Union County, The Franklinton PH Church in Franklinton, The Sawyersville PH Church in Asheboro and the Lenoir PH Church in Lenoir. She was a former employee of Klopman Mills in the copping room. In 1950 she studied for and received her LPN license and began her nursing career at the Griffin Clinic in Asheboro. She was later hired by Dr. J.R. Medlin who opened an office at the corner of Kivett and South Fayetteville Streets. Dr. T.R. Cleek began a practice at the corner of Wayman and Cox streets where she worked with him until her retirement. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Randleman where she attended till recently due to her illness. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, the Rev. Wade V. Linebarrier and Joseph B. Blair; daughters, Audrey L. Vanderburg, Gail L. Kawahara and Rebecca L. Farlow; and one grandson, Dean Farlow. She is survived by three sons, Bill Linebarrier and his wife, Madeline, of Asheboro, George Linebarrier and his wife, Loretta, of Asheboro and Paul Linebarrier of Liberty; sons-in-law, Mike Kawahara of Indianapolis, Ind., and Fred Farlow of Asheboro; nine grandchildren, Lewis Ray Linebarrier of Taylorsville, Mark Linebarrier of Liberty, Douglas Linebarrier of Dobson, Leslie West, Wade Linebarrier II and his wife, Pam, Chris Linebarrier and his wife, Teresa, Terri Maness and her husband, Randy, Freda Key and her husband, James, all of Asheboro, Troy Farlow and his wife, Teresa, of Pace, Fla.; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. The family received friends Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, and other times at the home of her son, Bill Linebarrier 1468 Lake Country Road, Asheboro. Memorials can be made to First Wesleyan Church of Randleman 125 Tabernacle St., Randleman, NC 27317.
