Davidson Clyde "Dace" FURR
(28 Mar 1897 - 26 Feb 1949)
Per Grandnephew William Thomas Linebarrier: Little is known about Davidson C. Furr. His niece, Lillie Mae Furr, does not remember having an uncle named Davidson but knew one named Dace. The 1900 census does not list a member of this family as Dace. It is my opinion this is the same person. It seems reasonable to call him Dace because his grandfather was named Davidson also and was living at times the same house.
Per Gene Gaddy: Davidson Clyde Furr (Dace) was my grandfather. Due to my parents (Reece and Nellie F. Gaddy) separation at my early age, I lived with my Furr grandparents from 1939 until my grandfather's death in 1949. I was 15 years of age when he died. He was a great role model for me. In many ways I thought he was very strict, but as I look back in time, he was always fair and faithful. He was a hard working man. Most of his years were spent working in the textile mills of Stanly county, NC. During the years I lived with his, he was an overseer in the textile mill in Norwood, NC. He was though very highly of in the town of Norwood and was often requested to participate in civic and church activities. He was an active member of the Baptist church and served on the board of deacons. He was also a city alderman. He was always asked to work at voting polls during elections. The local politicians solicited his endorsement and support. Each year he had a large vegetable garden, and took great pride in his ability to grow good crops. He and the neighbors would always compare success and failure in their volume and quality of crops produced. He loved to fish and hunt, and of curse I always loved to go with him, Spring and Summer, some Saturdays were for fishing. Winter weather permitting, we always went hunting. I have many fond memories of my grandfather, and I will never meet a finer man. He lived on Pee Dee Avenue, Norwood, Stanly County, NC.
Stanly Enterprise: "Uncle Dase" Furr, who has been living in North Albemarle for some time with Mr. Wiley Furr has been mentally unbalanced for quite a while. He was missed from home a few days ago and was found near Lowders mine, sitting placidly on a log, where he had evidently been for two days and nights.
