Death
Clarence P. Furr, former owner of Furr's Store & Equipment Co. in Longview, died Saturday at a Fort Worth hospital. He was 74. Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Brown, Gause-Ware, Owens & Brumley Funeral Directors. Burial will be in Hudson Cemetery, near Kennedale. Mr. Furr was born in Fort Smith, Ark., and lived in the Fort Worth area for 15 years. He was formerly the vice president and general manager of the store planning division of Waples-Platter Co. in Fort Worth from 1956 to 1962. He then moved to Longview in 1962 and established the Furr's Store & Equipment Co. Mr. Furr was a Navy veteran of World War II and a deacon in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors: Wife, Carolyn Furr of Gustine; three sons, LeRoy Furr of Tampa, Fla., Donald Furr of Henderson and Ronnie Ellis of Glen Heights; four daughters, Patsy White of Keller, Alice Cooney of Caddo Mills, Sheila Small of Kilgore and Sheri Ellis of Mineral Wells; brother, Dorsey Furr of Perris, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, April 26, 1993
