Death
Darlene Wilson Furr "Dot", 92, passed away at Arbor Landing at Pawley's, Pawley's Island, SC, late in the evening on March 31, 2024. Dot was born in Winter Park, FL, on May 18, 1931, to James Hal and Claribel Maddox Wilson. She had three sisters and she is survived by her younger sister, Patricia Wilson Dewberry of Griffin, Georgia. She is also survived by her four sons, Thomas Daniel Furr, Robert Marshall Furr, James Edward Furr, and John Claude Furr; one daughter, Elizabeth Furr Bell; her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her late husband, Lee R. Furr and eldest son Lee Wilson Furr preceded her in death. Dot married Lee in North Carolina in 1949 and made Newton, NC their home for many years. When Lee's work moved the family to Angers, France, Lynchburg, VA and finally settling in Florence, SC, she accepted every new opportunity with grace, enthusiasm and sense of adventure. In Florence, Dot enjoyed the Garden Club, Swamp Fox Quilters, crafting, golf, and was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, where she served as a member of the Altar Guild. She had many friends who noted her generosity of spirit and great sense of humor. She was a gracious hostess for numerous bridge parties and other gatherings through the years. She enjoyed traveling and passionately pursued art and painting in her later years. A celebration of life service will be held at Memorial Gardens, Florence, SC, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to East West Ministries https://www.eastwest.org/outofdarkness/ (missionary #9583) or the Building Fund for the Gathering Community Church, P.O.
