Individual Details
Abigail STALLINGS
(1 Oct 1780 - 27 Aug 1857)
On her marriage bond her name is spelled "Absom Tallien."
As far back as I have been able to trace the Stallings family is Abigail Stallings, October 1, 1780--August 27, 1857. She married John Furr, who was born March 12, 1779, and died September 27, 1847.
I am satisfied that Abigail was a sister to William (Billy) Stallings, who was born December 6, 1785 and died September 16, 1857. There is a tradition that the Stallings family came from Edgecomb County, N. C. The name was spelled in different ways as "Rallins," Tallien," "Stallins," "Stalans." and after 1857 it was spelled "Stallings." It is recorded in Concord, N. C. that John Furr married Absom Tallien on February 25, 1800. After careful research I am satisfied that Absom Tallien and Abigail Stallings are one and the same person.
William (Billy) Stallings and his wife Rachel Furr are buried in what is called the Furr graveyard near the John Teeter home about a mile from Georgeville. On his tombstone is this record, "William Stallings, 6 Dec 1785-16 Sept. 1857." On her tombstone is this record, "Rachel Stallings, died 7-28-1862, aged about 69 years."
This elder John Furr was a brother to Paul Furr I, so Rachel was first cousin to Daniel Furr who married Sophia Widenhouse, and Rachel's children and Daniel's children were second cousins.
The second recorded connection of the Furr and Stallings families is when Henry Furry (sic), brother to Rachel, married Rody (Rhoda) Tallence November 12, 1802. Rody was a sister to Abigail and Billy Stallings, Abigail being born in 1780, Rody in 1783, and Billy in 1785.
The first connection of these families was when John Furr married Abigail February 25, 1800, and the third connection was when Billy Stallings married Rachel Furr July 16, 1810.
The 1850 Stanly County Census shows her living with her son, Ransom Furr and his wife Sally (Sarah) Eudy.
