Death

Mack Cowan Gibson, 85, of Oak Ridge Farm Highway, Mooresville, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 22, 1924, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Graham Caldwell and Bess Cowan Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a graduate of Davidson High School. He worked for Lyerly Concrete and retired as a concrete salesman. Mr. Gibson was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a member of Prospect Presbyterian Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and deacon. Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by brothers, Lee, Graham and John Gibson, and his sister, Mary Gibson Kleiber. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia “Jean” Towell Gibson, whom he married on June 29, 1973; children, Sam Furr Gibson and wife, Susan Mauney, of Charlotte, and Rene Gibson Hinote and husband, Lloyd, of Monroe; grandsons, John Stover and Tyler Gibson; and special niece, Paula Moody Mangum and husband, Carl, of Creedmore. Funeral services will be at 11a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Prospect Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Joanne Hull officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 and/or Prospect Presbyterian Church, 9425 West N.C. Highway 152, Mooresville, NC 28115. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family of Mr. Gibson.
