Death
Muriel Rice, 100, died Friday, July 5, 1996 at Villa St. Joseph in Overland Park, Kansas. Muriel was born December 23, 1895 in Marshall, Arkansas to John Arthur and Nellie Brown Dugger. Muriel married Chauncey V. Rice on January 2, 1916 in Hammon. She was a long time resident of Wichita, Kansas where she had been employed by Hinkle's Department Stroe for fifteen years before her retirement in 1960. She had been active in T.M. Club, Evening Hypatia, U.M.W. and East Heights United Methodist Church. She had been a resident of Overland Park Kansas since 1988. Muriel was preceded in death by her husband in 1937, one son, James Rice, 1981 and one daughter Helene Marie Muller, 1958, two brothers and three sisters. Survivors include: two children; Chauncey V. Rice, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Overland Park, Kansas; Carrol Edgell and her husband Wendell of Midland, Texas; one daughter-in-law; Eileen Rice of Emporia, Kansas; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchilldren; two brothers; Harry and his wife Martha Toye Dugger of Anadarko; E. Brown and his wife Ruth Dugger of Hammon; one sister-in-law; Irene Dugger of Elk City. Graveside services will be held at Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, Tuesday, at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Dugger officiating. Funeral services are under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.Endnotes
