Death

Chauncey V. Rice, 87, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away December 28, 2014. Chauncey was born Sept. 13, 1927, in Cheyenne, Okla., to Chauncey V. and Muriel Dugger Rice. He graduated from Plainview High School early to enlist in the US Navy during WWII and served as Seaman First Class. Following the service he attended Wichita State University and graduated in June 1950 with a BS degree in Business Administration. Chauncey married Velva Joyce Furr on March 19, 1960, in Wichita, Kan., and have been married for 54 years. He was involved in the Heart of America SPEBSQSA and American Legion Post 370. He was preceded in death by parents, brother, James, sisters, Helen Marie Mueller and Carroll Edgell. Chauncey is survived by his wife, Joyce, three daughters, Alicia Kannard (Kevin), Cindy Svec (Robert), Nancy Laflin (Troy), seven grandchildren, Justin and Janna Kannard, Jennifer Turney (Mark), Taylor and Kristen Svec, Samantha and Tyler Laflin and host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Jan. 2, at Old Mission United Methodist Church, 5519 State Park Road, Fairway, KS 66205 with Rev. Karen Nyhart officiating. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, 83rd and Quivira, Lenexa, Kan., immediately following the service. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service with visitation at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Old Mission United Methodist Church and/or the American Heart Association .
