Death

Elizabeth Armstrong Harkey Kerr, age 83, of Gastonia, was a daughter to the late Robert Lee, Jr. and Avie Price Armstrong. From infancy, she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Dallas Harkey, Sr. and Margaret Armstrong Harkey, whom she cherished. She was also predeceased by her devoted husband of 60 years, Fred A. Kerr, Sr.; brothers, Robert Armstrong, Jr., Joseph Armstrong, Mack Armstrong, Paul Armstrong, D.S. Harkey Jr.; sisters, Frances Coleman, Dora Beauchamp, Helen Jensen, Sara Thevaos, and Margaret Witherspoon. Elizabeth graduated from Gastonia High School. She was employed for many years as a switchboard operator and retired from Cinderella Knitting Mills. Elizabeth was a charter member of Robinson Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she also sang joyfully in the choir. Later, she became an elder at Robinson, which was one of her greatest accomplishments. Elizabeth celebrated life and loved her family immensely. A service celebrating Elizabeth’s life was held April 15, 2018 in the Founder’s Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors.
