Death
Maxine Wingard Taylor of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully in her home on December 3, 2023. Maxine was born in Lexington, SC to the late Reba and J. Maxcy Wingard where she lived until after her High School Graduation in 1958. Maxine moved to Charlotte where she had a Secretarial career in the insurance industry and then began to work in the J. Murrey Atkins Library on the campus of UNC Charlotte where she worked until her retirement. An avid sports fan, Maxine enjoyed following her favorite teams The Charlotte 49ers, the NC State Wolfpack, the Atlanta Braves, the Carolina Hurricanes and the Carolina Panthers. Maxine was a proud and active member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church for 47 years where her greatest joy was serving and loving those in need. She cared for, fed and helped countless people including several generations of young people on sports fields and dance stages, and in schools. She was a “Mimi“ to many who loved her. Maxine was preceded in death by her sister Myrna Black and bonus sisters Mable Tindall and Mickey Awtrey. She is survived by her son Craig (Kim), grandchildren Owen, Lauren and Aaron and her daughter Dana Furr (Scott), grandchildren Taylor and Carson. She loved her 5 grandchildren with her entire heart. Maxine leaves behind many treasured nieces and nephews and friends that were precious to her. A celebration of Maxine’s life will be held on Saturday December 16 at 2:00 at St Thomas Lutheran Church in Charlotte. Visitation and fellowship will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church or to the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Her family also wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to Jason Shultz, MD and his entire staff at Novant Oncology, to the incredible team with Novant Hospice Charlotte, and all who loved her and cared for her during her Cancer journey.Endnotes
