Death
Lucille Williamson Porter, 88, of Charlotte, NC, died January 2, 2004. She was born February 19, 1915 in Mecklenburg County and was the daughter of the late James Samuel Williamson and Janie Davenport Williamson. She retired after 20 years as a cashier with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. She was a member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church where she was a former deacon and a member of the Fun Bunch Senior Group. She also served as a volunteer with Crop Walk. Mrs. Porter was married October 8, 1935 to Philip Sloan Porter who preceded her in death on December 25, 1997. Survivors include her children Jim Porter and his wife Dean of Charlotte, NC; Phyllis Van Derbeck and her husband Kevin of Rockwell, NC; Pam Furr and her husband Gary of Fort Mill, SC; sister, Ruth Moore of Fort Mill, SC; brother, Wilburn Williamson of Decatur, GA; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren and 1 step great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Inez Williamson and Willie Mae Bigger. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2004 from Steele Creek Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Larry Duncan officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel. Memorials may be made to Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 7407 Steele Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28217.
