Death

Eleanor Burwell Graff Hodges, 90, of Roanoke, died Thursday, November 4, 2004. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Episcopal Church, a graduate of Hollins College, a member of the Junior League of Roanoke, the DAR, the Roanoke Assembly, and numerous other community service organizations. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Claude A. Hodges Sr.; her parents, J. Paul and Mary D. Graff; and one grandson, Christopher Andrew Hodges. She is survived by one son, Lt. Col. C. Andrew Hodges Jr., USAF and his wife, JoAnn of Fayetteville, N.C.; four daughters, Mary Eleanor H. Coleman and her husband, John of Midlothian, Margaret H. Furr of Greensboro, N.C., Carolyn H. Cromwell and her husband, Robert of Midlothian, and Ann Graff Hodges of Roanoke; 10 grandchildren, William J. Strickland Jr. and his wife, Diana, Sarah Strickland St. Jean and her husband, Matt, R. Michael Furr Jr., David A. Furr, G. Richardson Turner III, David S. Turner and his wife, Elizabeth, Elizabeth H. Cromwell, Robert Joshua Cromwell, Jacob A. Hodges, and Kara D. Hodges; one great-grandchild, William J. Strickland III; two sisters, Theresa G. Jamison and Irma G. Holland, both of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2004 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Roanoke, with the Rev. Bob Beasley and Rev. Bob Hamner officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
