Death
HODGES, Claude Andrew Sr., 91, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 31, 1998. He was a graduate of Roanoke High School, Virginia Polytechnical Institute and served in the U.S. Army during World War II for five years, retiring as a Major. He began working at Hodges Lumber Corporation in 1928 and served as Treasurer, President and Chairman of the Board. He was a member of the Roanoke Optimist Club and had served as president of the Roanoke Association of Credit Men, the Roanoke Merchants Association and the Virginia Building Materials Association. He was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, and had served on the vestry for nine years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Wilmer Hodges and Ellie Mary Cutchin Hodges; three brothers, Joseph Wilmer Hodges Jr., Joel Cutchin Hodges and Herbert Lewis Hodges, and a grandson, Christopher Andrew Hodges. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Burwell Graff Hodges of Roanoke; five children, Mary Eleanor Hodges Coleman and her husband, John of Richmond, Margaret Lee Hodges Furr and her husband, Richard of Greensboro, N.C., Carolyn Lewis Hodges Cromwell and her husband, Robert of Richmond, Ann Graff Hodges of Roanoke and C. Andrew (''Drew"") Hodges Jr. and his wife, Jo Ann of Botetourt County, and 10 grandchildren, George Richardson Turner III, David Scott Turner, Robert Joshua Cromwell, Elizabeth Hodges Cromwell, William Jesse Strickland, Sarah Elizabeth Strickland, Richard Michael Furr, David Andrew Furr, Jacob Andrew Hodges and Kara Douglas Hodges.Roanoke Times, The (VA) - Roanoke Times, The (VA) - February 1, 1998
