Death
Dolly Rose Coullard, age 89, of Sault Ste, Marie, MI, passed away on January 8, 2023, at the Ball Hospice House, due to complications from a fractured hip. Dolly was born on June 6, 1933, in Spotted Horse, WY, to the late William Allen and Bertha (Landrey) Jones. She grew up in Barbeau, MI, and graduated in 1951 from Sault High School. After High School, Dolly met Maurice Coullard while both worked at Retailers Wholesale "Our Own" Bakery. When Dolly moved to a job at Fort Lucas, among the many eligible men in uniform, Maurice proposed post haste. They were married June 7, 1952, at St. Mary's Pro Cathedral. After a total of seven years in Fort Riley, KS, and Detroit, MI, Dolly and Maurice settled and raised their family on Baker Side Road, Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Dolly was a devoted stay-at-home mother, spoiling her family with home-made bread, pies, cakes, and home-cooked meals. She could often be heard singing and humming as she worked in the kitchen. After raising the children, Dolly loved working as a CNA (Certified Nurse's Aide) for Provincial House and then War Memorial Hospital, most often the long-term-care unit, for more than 20 years, where she said caring for people was "always appreciated." Because she took such pride in that work, she displayed her work badge as a treasured memento. Dolly enjoyed weekly mass; gardening both vegetables and flowers; crocheting afghans, chaussettes, and Christmas trees; baking (so many Christmas goodies); going fishing, berry picking, and camping; family gatherings and boat rides from Roger at Monocle Lake; and occasionally playing slot machines at the casino. Dolly's passion was her grandchildren. She loved to hold, rock, and bathe the babies, and she could be counted on to care for a sick grandchild staying home from school. Just last week she lit up upon learning another greatgrandchild is on the way. Dolly is survived and will be missed by her cat Bright Eyes; children: Maria Coullard of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Michele Walker of Dafter, MI, Collette Coullard of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Jon (Anna) Coullard of Brimley, MI, Jill (Derick) Eitrem of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and Roger Coullard of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; grandchildren: Maureen Fonken, Dolly (Michael) Furr, Krista Cobourn, Aimée Walker, Ben (Jenn) Walker, Lucas (Autumn) Walker, Byron (Megan Lindgren) Gamble, Laura (Nathan Bates) Gamble, Jami (Chris Fitzgerald) Stout, Joselyn (Jordan) Verdelli, Marcel (Amanda) Coullard, Nick (Courtney Arbic) Coullard, Matthew (Jamie) Sturgul, Joshua (Jessica) Beseau, Jeremy (Erin) Eitrem, Joseph (Ashley) Eitrem, Ariana Eitrem, Jacob (Jessica) Eitrem, and Dylan Eitrem; 25 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving Dolly are her brothers Allen "Sonny" (Evelyn) Jones of Sault Ste. Marie, Jerry (Judy) Jones of Sault Ste. Marie, Robert (Sara) Jones of Ludington, William (Lisa Ann) Jones of Kinross, and Timothy Jones of El Cajun, CA. Dolly was preceded in death by her parents, husband Maurice, granddaughter Angela Coullard, sister Fay (Robert) Carley, sister Lois (Thomas) Payment, stepfather Gerald Delonnay, and stepmother Elizabeth Jones. Dolly's family will never forget the love and care Dolly got at McKinley Manor, My Michigan Hospital Surgical Care and Long-Term Care, Medilodge, and Hospice House. Thank you all for your part in walking her home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday January 13, 2023, at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. Friends may gather from 10:00 am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Hospice of the EUP.Endnotes
