Death
Iola Madeline "Mutt" Oakes Thompson, age 98, of Medical Center Rd., Danville, VA, passed away at her residence on Monday, May 19, 2014. Born in Pittsylvania County on August 09, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Clement Oakes and Iola Hardin Burton Oakes. On December 24, 1935, she married Richard Thomas Thompson, who predeceased her on October 24, 2009. She is survived by her daughter, Carol T. Fortner, of the residence; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Thomas Samuel Thompson, brothers, Harmon Oakes and Bernard Oakes, sisters, Margaret O. Moore and Dorothy O. White. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Swicegood Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
