Marriage
The marriage of Miss Mary Helen Kennard, daughter of the late Mrs. Helen Yale Kennard, and Ellsworth Frost Miner look place at Winsted, Conn., on June 7. Miner is southwestern sales manager for the Spencer Turbine Cleaner Company of Hartford, Conn., with Headquarters at 721 First National Bank Building, Houston, Tex.Yale Alumni Weekly, September 22, 1911
Death
Mary Kennard Miner, an active participant in civic affairs throughout her 41-year residence in Arlington, died Nov. 1 at Arlington Hospital at the age of 89. She resided at 2304 N. Jackson St. in Arlington. During her life, Mrs. Miner served on both the board of the Northern Virginia Visiting Nurse Association and the board of the Arlington Library. Involved also in religious organizations, she was a Communicant at the Church of the Epiphany and served as the 1900 to 1910 class decade chairwoman of the Washington Wesley Club. Mrs. Miner also was instrumental in the founding of the Arlington County Girl Scout Council and did work with the Community Chest, which eventually evolved into the United Fund. She was a descendant of a long line of civil minded individuals. Mrs. Miner was born in New Orleans, La., and her father was Louisiana Supreme Court Justice John Hanson Kennard. She was a descendant of John Hanson, Maryland’s delegate to the Continental Congress who was elected president of the United States Assembled in Congress. She was the widow of Ellsworth Frost Miner and is survived by three daughters, Harriet Griggs Miner, of Arlington, Mrs. Frank B. Mooers, of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Mrs. A.W. Spens-Thomson, of East Norwalk, Conn.; one son H.K. Miner, of Ocean Springs, Miss.; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held today at the Ives Funeral Home, 2847 Wilson Blvd. Internment was at National Memorial Park in Falls Church.Northern Virginia Sun, Arlington, Virginia, 6 November 1975
