Death
Annie Nay Mahanes, 53, of Charlottesville died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Born April 17, 1945, in Albemarle County, she was a daughter of James Henson Nay and Margaret Harding Nay of Faber. In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband of 16 years, William Michael Mahanes; her step-daughter, Monica Mahanes of Lynchburg; two sisters, Edith Leathers of Afton and Judy Williams of Lynchburg; three brothers, James and Cecil Nay, both of Greene, and Ronnie Nay of Earlysville; 12 nieces ‘and nephews, Annette King, William ‘Tim” Nay, Wendell Nay, Jenne Garrett, Marvin Leathers, Curtis Wayne Leathers, Trayain Farrar, Todd Williams, Troy Williams, Alece Demshock, Melody Nay and Marsha Nay; and a number of great-nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Batesville with the Rev. David Wayland officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 1290 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, Va., 22901.
