Death

Jack Donald Henderson went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2014. You are invited to join Jack's family in a celebration of his life at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, 307 Avenue C NW, Childress, TX on Saturday, January 18th, 2014 at 2 pm. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery. A family visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 6-8 P.M. at Johnson Funeral Home. Jack Donald Henderson was born in McNary, Arizona on February 10, 1947. Jack spent his early years in McNary, AZ before moving with his family to El Paso, Texas. After graduating from Irvin High School in El Paso in 1965, Jack fulfilled his dream of joining the United States Marine Corp. He went to Vietnam on his first assignment. Although he suffered an injury and was unable to continue a career in the marines, he was always a Marine at heart. After many months of rehabilitation Jack returned to El Paso, TX and attended college at the University of Texas El Paso, receiving a degree in Business. He worked with his father at the family business, Plains Mobile Homes in El Paso for a few years while attending and after graduating from college. He then opened his own business, Circle K Mobile Home Park. While living in El Paso, Jack dreamed of moving to Childress, TX where both his mother and father had grown up. He had many great memories of visiting his grandparents and family in Childress and always wanted to be a farmer. He eventually sold his home and business in El Paso and moved to Childress. He loved his dogs, spending time on his farm and tending to his cattle. Jack was a devout Christian and loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and loved studying the Bible. Jack was a true friend to everyone he met, loved helping people, and had many friends in Childress. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Childress Church of Christ, 210 2nd St. SE, Childress, TX 79201 or to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301. Jack was greeted in heaven by his mother , Edwina Cope Henderson. He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer L. Lara of Phoenix, AZ. and Jacquelyn S. Berry (Jason) of Fredericksburg, VA; his grandchildren, Lauren, Dylan, Brheanna, Bryleigh and Blake; his father Doyal "Speck" Henderson, two brothers, Doyal S. Henderson and John C. Henderson; and sister Lena "Marty" Mares, as well as many nieces and nephews. A death is not the extinguishing of a light, but the putting out of the lamp because the dawn has come. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
