Death

Keith Furr Drye, 80 years of age, of Oakboro, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Carolinas HealthCare System Stanly in Albemarle. Mr. Drye was born October 7, 1936 to the late Eli Thomas and Lena Ellen Drye. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. Keith retired from Burgess Transport in 2001 after many years of service. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served from 1955 to 1959. Keith was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Oakboro and had served his community in many ways. He was a previous member of the Oakboro Jaycees, served on the Oakboro Town Board, and was a member of the Stanly County Planning and Zoning Board. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Oakboro officiated by Rev. Dr. Terrell Watts, Rev. Chip Alsobrooks, and Rev. Mike McClellan. Burial will follow in the Oakboro Cemetery at 1397 North Main Street, Oakboro. Survivors include wife of 61 years, Barbara Taylor Drye; daughters, Debbie Williams and husband Mike, Teresa Curry and husband Tom; son, Douglas Drye and wife Tammy; grandchildren, Melissa, Samantha, Bradley, Jonathan, Jessie; sister, Bea Goodman and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Oakboro, Building Fund, 322 N. Main St. Oakboro, NC. 28129. Hartsell Funeral Home is serving the Drye family.
