ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - The Robeson County Sheriff's Office homicide division is investigating the shooting death of 20-year-old Rowland, NC man. At 4:07 a.m. Saturday morning, law enforcement responded to 2674 Red Hill Road Maxton, NC, to a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Cory Allen Furr dead in the back yard of this residence from being shot with an unknown caliber. The resident is the girlfriend of Cory Furr. An altercation occurred between Furr and a male that came to the residence; an exchange of shots fired between the two men resulted in the death of Furr, according to Robeson County Sheriff's Office. Furr was not living in the residence at this time, he had recently moved out. According to Robeson County Sheriff's Office, there is a person of interest being questioned at this time.ROWLAND — Cory Alan Furr, 20, of 149 Dawn Drive, Rowland, died July 18, 2015. at Southeastern Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Revels Funeral Home Chapel Pembroke. Burial will follow in Union Light Church Cemetery. The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Revels Funeral Home Pembroke.

Mr. Cory Alan Furr was born August 26, 1994 in Lumberton, NC to Vincent Smith and Brooke Furr. He was suddenly called to eternal rest on Saturday July 18, 2015. Cory Alan was known to many as “Bro”. He could always be counted on by family and friends to help out, do his part and “lookout” for them. He will truly be missed for being a gentle compassionate, caring and loving person to his children, but also to his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Smith; his sister, Dawn D. Jacobs; uncle, Austin Hunt; and paternal grandparents, Olin and Rose Furr; and Archie Smith. He leaves behind to cherish, his daughter, Alieanna N. Furr of Maxton, NC; sons, Aiden Chandler Woods of Pembroke, NC and Chavien Anthony Deese; mother, Brooke M. Furr of Rowland, NC; four sisters, Cora A. Furr of Rowland, NC, Vanisha D. Smith, Melanie R. Bullard both of Pembroke, NC and Jayla M. Cummings of Lumberton, NC; four brothers, Nickolas Bullard, Vincent Smith Jr., Kendrick Smith all of Pembroke, NC and Tristian Smith of Maxton, NC; five uncles, Brock and Brandon Furr, Jimmie Hunt Jr., Jamie Hunt and Michael Lowery “Mike” all of Pembroke, NC; two aunts, Audrey Sanderson of Maxton, NC and Hilda J. Barnes of Lumberton, NC; a special niece, Za’Kiyah Rose; two nephews, June Bug and Bran-Bran; and a big sweet loving host of relatives and friends.
