Death
Howard L. Blick, 87, of Port St. Joe, passed away Friday morning, May 22, 2015, at the Bridge at Bay St. Joe nursing home in Port St. Joe. He was the son of Walter and Mabel Blick. He was born in Pine Bluff, Ark., and grew up in Natchez, Miss. He served in the 88th Infantry Division and was a World War II veteran. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. An educator for 35 years, he also worked for the National Park Service from 1955-1957 as a historian at Petersburg, Va., National Military Park. He was the assistant principal at Port St. Joe High School, the principal of Highland View Elementary School, the principal of Port St. Joe Elementary School and the Director of the Gulf County Adult School. He retired in 1989. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 65 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Blick, son Robert Blick (Letecia,) daughter Lynn Furr (Jeffrey,) and grandchildren Andrew, Rebecca and Lindsay Furr. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 at Holly Hill cemetery in Port St. Joe conducted by Dr. Geoffrey Lentz, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe. Visitation will be held at the cemetery from 1:30-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make donations to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe.Endnotes
