CHARLOTTE - David Eugene Shipes, Sr., born August 31, 1930, passed from this life on January 21, 2015. David is survived by his wife Julia Shipes of the home; daughters Sara Hoyle of Iron Station, Patsy Payne of Charlotte, Kathy Furr and husband Russell of Charlotte; sons Ronnie Shipes of Charlotte, David Eugene Shipes, Jr. of Charlotte; grandchildren; Yvette, Ronald, Sara, Julianna, Christopher, David, Pam, Michael, Amy, Daniel, Dale and 14 great-grandchildren. A memorial service for David will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Durham Baptist Church in Charlotte.Published in Charlotte Observer on Jan. 23, 2015
