Death
KINSTON | Dallas Acree "Shorty" Swindell, 72, of Kinston, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2014. Shorty was born October 17, 1941, to the late Arleigh and Levaner Swindell. He proudly served his Country with the U.S. Air Force from 1960–1964. He worked many years at Glen Raven Mills, Domestic/Oneita, and most recently was a driver for Carroll Dental Lab. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Coates officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Mr. Swindell cherished his family and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patsy Furr Swindell, and two loving daughters, Ginger Swindell Harrelson and husband Dave, of Kinston and Kellie Swindell Jones and husband Dannie, of Greenville. He is also survived by the seven lights of his life, his grandchildren, Noah Jones, Matthew Jones, Summer Jones, Savanna Jones, Luke Jones, Ackery Harrelson and Caden Harrelson; two brothers, Charles Swindell and wife Linda, of Charleston, S.C., and Frankie Swindell and wife Patricia, of Kinston; special in-laws, Ed and Kay Avery and Roland and Sandy Taylor, all of Kinston. Uncle Shorty is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He also leaves behind his church family at First Original Free Will Baptist Church where he was an active member, usher and deacon.
