Death

Mary Ruth Furr, 93, died Tuesday April 18, 2017 at Traceway. She was born June 13, 1923 in Guntown to the late John and Anna Barber Sims. She was a longtime and faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Tupelo. Mary Ruth was the owner and operator of Playland Toy Store and also worked as a sales associate for Reeds Department Store. She also had the great honor of serving as a Ole Miss fraternity house mother. Her spare time was spent with her loving family and playing bridge and golf with friends. Survivors include her four grandchildren Mark Furr, Paula Furr Cain, Kelsey Higgins Sneed, and Lexie Higgins Russell; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Furr Jr., son Donald Furr III, and daughter Susan Furr Higgins. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday April 20, 2017 at Glenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Britton officiating.
