Marriage
Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Merrill announce the marriage of their daughter, Vannah Merrill, to Mr. J. T. Merrill. The ceremony was secretly performed Oct. 23. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Merrill. She is a graduate of the Clarke County A. H. S. and is popular among a wide circle of friends. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Merrill, and for some time past has been employed by Abney Motor Co. Death
J. T. Merrell, 79, of Heidelberg, died Nov. 13 at Jones County Community Hospital. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shady Grove First Baptist Church in Vossburg, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Sharber Smith will officiate. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Shady Grove First Baptist Church in Vossburg, where he served as a deacon. He is survived by his widow, Vannah M. Merrell of Heidelberg, sons, Gilbert Merrell of New Hebron and Tracy Merrell of Laurel; a daughter, Martha Merrell Furr of Newport News, Va; a nephew, Fred Merrell; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be W.J. Loper, James Allen Thomas, Frank Herrington, Calvis Rowell, Joey Merrell and Marty Merrell. James K. Leggett and Hayden Hinson will serve as honorary pallbearers. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. today at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Heidelberg, which is in charge of arrangements.The Laurel Leader-Call, Laurel, Mississippi, Nov 14, 1988
