Death
Mr. Joe Purnay Greene, age 89, of Monroe, NC, passed from this life to eternal paradise on Sunday, February 7, 2021. Funeral services to honor Joe's life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1521 Old Fish Rd. Monroe, NC, 28110, officiated by Pastor Mark Clontz. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1:30 PM. Joe was born February 17, 1931, in Union County, NC, a son of the late Fred Greene and Annie Maude Furr Greene. A man of uncommon integrity and strength, Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who proudly held the title of "Daddy" and "Paw Paw". A retired foreman from Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, he taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard work but also the importance of love, family and laughter. A man of faith who kept things simple yet straightforward, his wisdom and warmth were a blessing to all around him. His arms were always open for a hug and his shoulders strong enough to bear any burden. He loved his friends and family and enjoyed the many softball games, mountain adventures, and fishing trips to the Outer Banks over the years. Joe's love and legacy will continue to live in each of us, and we can only hope that our light can shine as brightly as his. Joe is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen Hinson Greene, his sons; Randy Greene (Annette) and Ben Greene, his daughters; Tammy Parker (Bobby) and Beth Greene, his sisters; Melvin Helms and Margaret Hurst, his granddaughter, Amanda Elliott (Wayne), his grandson, Landon Greene (Lauren), and his great-grandchildren; Carson Elliott, Mason Greene, Lily Greene, Hayden Elliott, Waylon Greene. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death and reunited in eternal life with his brothers; Lonnie Greene and Vance Greene, and his sisters; Margie Medlin and Georgia Clontz. Davis Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Mr. Greene.Endnotes
