Death
MARSHVILLE -- MSGT Billy “Bill” Vance Greene, US Air Force Retired, was called to his eternal rest Friday, October 9, 2009. His devoted wife of 63 years, Mary Brooks Greene was by his side holding his hand. Bill was born May 23, 1925 in Union County, NC son of the late Fred P. and Annie Maude Furr Greene. He is also preceded in death by one brother, Lonnie Greene, and one sister, Georgia Clontz. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in the Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, 6223 Love Mill Rd., Monroe, NC 28110. He is survived by his loving children, Darlene, Susan, and Richard, grandchildren, Jennifer, Lori, Lindsay, George, Elizabeth, Joey, Emily, Melissa, Misty and Hannah, step-grandchildren, Sean, Mical, Andre, Kelsey, Liza, and Brandon; great grandchildren, Molly, Kyle and Jayna; brother, Joe Greene; sisters, Margie Medlin, Margaret Hurst and Melvin Helms. MSGT Greene, a survivor of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, served his country for 26 years. For his bravery in combat during WWII, he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and 2 purple hearts. He also served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. The family will receive friends Monday evening, October 12, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 at Gordon Funeral & Cremation Service.
