Tuesday, December 20, 2011 — Billy Carol “Bill” Poplin, 77, of 132 Clearview Point Dr., Mt. Gilead, died at 12:12 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, in Stanly Regional Medical Center. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stanly Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Nathan Hammill will officiate. Burial will be in Poplins Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with masonic graveside rites by Stanly Lodge 348.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the hour of the service.
Born Sept. 4, 1934 in Stanly County, he was son of the late Vaughn and Viola Furr Poplin. He was former owner of Bill’s House of Seafood and former owner of Pat & Mick’s Seafood. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and member of Stanly Lodge 348. He was also a Shriner. He was married to Shelba Bowman Poplin of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Billy Steven Poplin of Lexington and Martin Levi Poplin of Albemarle; a daughter, Amy PoplinDunatov of Raleigh; a sister, Bonnie Poplin Cook of Greensboro; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
