Rev. Charles E. McIntyre III. On Wednesday, August 31, Charles E. McIntyre, 92, left this world of service for his next. Born March 5, 1924, at Sparrows Point, Maryland, the son of Grace O. (Loftus) and Charles E. McIntyre, Jr. Chuck joined the Army in 1943. While in the Army, he joined the 14th Anti-aircraft Command and served in various locations in the South Pacific Theatre. He was discharged in 1946 as Sergeant First Class. McIntyre taught in the Baltimore Public Schools until being recalled to the Army in November 1950, serving in Korea with the Eighth Field Artillery Battalion of the 25th Tropic Lightning Division. Decorated with The Bronze Star, he returned to the States in 1953. In that year, Chuck joined the El Paso Natural Gas Company's Engineering Department, transferring to the El Paso Products Company in 1963. Beginning in 1965, he was associated in various capacities with the Joint Venture between El Paso and Dart Industries, Consolidated Thermoplastics Company, being named Executive Vice President and later in 1969, President of Consolidated. He resigned from that post in 1972 to attend seminary. Concurrent with military, teaching and business, McIntyre was active in the Episcopal Church, serving as a Licensed Lay Reader in the Diocese of Maryland from 1942 until his induction in the Army. While in El Paso, he served in the same capacity at St. Alban's Episcopal Church. He studied for Holy Orders under the direction of The Rev. Malcolm N. Twiss and was ordained Deacon by The Rt. Rev Charles James Kinsolving November 25, 1958, serving as Assistant to the Rector at St. Alban's until his transfer to Odessa, Texas in 1964. From January 1964 until entering seminary in 1972, he served as Assistant to the Rector of St. John's Parish, Odessa. Chuck entered The School of Theology (St. Luke's Seminary) The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee in September 1972, graduating with the degree of Master of Divinity in June 1975. While residing in Sewanee, he served as Assistant to the Rector of St. Paul's-on-the-Mountain. Ordained Priest in June 1975 at St. John's Odessa, Texas by the Rt. Rev Willis Ryan Henton, McIntyre was assigned as Vicar of Grace Church, Vernon and Trinity Church, Quanah. In February, 1979 he accepted the call to be Rector of St Paul's Parish of Burnet County, a county-wide Parish with Chapels at Burnet (Epiphany) and Marble Falls (Trinity). In September 1981, he was called to be Associate Rector of St. John's parish, Odessa. He served in that capacity until his retirement at the end of 1992. After retiring in January 1993, he served as Supply Priest for the Diocese of Northwest Texas. In 1994, being licensed to serve in the Diocese of the Rio Grande by the Rt. Rev Terence Kelshaw, he served as Team Rector of the Pecos Team Ministry comprised of St. Mark's Pecos and St. Stephen's Fort Stockton until the end of 2007. In recent years he assisted at St. John's Episcopal School, Odessa as School Chaplain. He married Margaret E. (Peggy) Townsend August 12, 1944. They are the parents of four children: Brian Townsend McIntyre of Houston; Candace (McIntyre) Morris of Odessa; the late Deirdre Ann (McIntyre) Furr of Liberty Hill; and Heather Leigh (McIntyre) Konlande of Houston. Grandchildren are: Colleen and Kevin McIntyre; Sean and Ian Morris and Sheena (Morris) Cavender; Tarna and Cassandra Furr; Alex and Kelsey Konlande. Great grandchildren – Darrian and Michaella Morris, and Gryphon Cavender. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Chuck's name may be sent to St. John's Episcopal Church, St. John's Episcopal School, or the Alzheimer's Foundation. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at St. John's Episcopal Church. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.Endnotes
