Death

Kevin James "Papa Furr" Furr, 48, of Marquette, died unexpectedly, Friday evening, August 8, 2014 at Marquette General Hospital following a brief illness. He was born March 21, 1966 in Gwinn, a son of Murphy S. and Shirley A. (Walstrom) Furr and raised in Harvey. Kevin was employed as a laborer at Atsalasis Brothers in Roseville, MI until a debilitating injury at work left him partially disabled in 1999. He attended Bethel Baptist Church and enjoyed his time with family & friends. Kevin is survived by three sons, Samuel Jay Furr, Matthew James Furr and Skylar Ray Furr, all of Denmark, WI; step-daughter, Nicole Johnson of Denmark; mother, Shirley Furr of Harvey; step-grandchild, Kelsy Johnson of Denmark; siblings, Ronald (Terri) Olson of Gwinn, Andrew Olson of Minot, ND, Laurie (Jerome) Tengesdahl of Kingsford and Diane (Gerald) Demeuse of Marquette; several nieces & nephews; and canine companion, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his father, Murphy Furr in 2013 and a brother, Jay Furr in 1977. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. in the church with Rev. Hank Steede and Rev. Brian Oberg officiating.
