Death

Gary Wayne Gray Sr., age 73, passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at Carolinas Healthcare System-NorthEast, Concord, after a recent illness. He was born Sept. 22, 1942, in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Robert Lester Gray and Leatha Stirewalt Gray. Gary was employed as a supervisor with the City of Kannapolis Sanitation Department for many years until his retirement due to ill health. Gary was blessed with the art of music. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing his guitar and singing in numerous bands. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. At Christmas, his home was known for having Santa and his elf for the community to see. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Furr Gray; his son, Gary Wayne Gary Jr.; brothers Earl Gray, Robert Gray, Clyde Gray; and his sisters, Dollie Barringer, Faye Hyde and Lois Kennerly. Survivors include his daughter, Lesley Goforth; daughter-in-law Connie Gray; grandchildren Bradley Wallace, Courtney Gray, Devin Goforth, Michael Black, Brooke Gray and Alan Gray; his great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Wiley and Kaydence Gray. Arrangements: The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel, Kannapolis, officiated by Rev. Billy Carey. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m.Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to help pay funeral expenses to Whitley's Funeral Home.
