Death
CONCORD Gail Ruth Martin, 72, of Concord, gently returned home to Jesus Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord this evening, Wednesday, Dec. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Hartsell Funeral Home Thursday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Beaver Hammonds will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Ms. Martin was born Dec. 17, 1939, to the late Ollie Chilton Martin and the late Pauline Lomax Martin. Gail is survived by her son, Trent Furr of Kannapolis; daughter Trena Furr of Concord; her former husband, Jerry A. Furr of Concord; two brothers, Buck Martin of China Grove and Mike Martin of Concord. Gail was blessed with a loving family that includes a host of nieces and nephews. In her working years, she was employed by Eastern Airlines, Cabarrus Bank & Trust, Belk and Public Storage. She was always an active member of her church but as poor health continued, she was not able to attend in later years. Her passions were singing gospel music, her home, her sweet pets and her family. Memorials may be made to Hospice, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081, or the Humane Society, 2010 Wilshire Court, Concord, NC 28025.
