Death
MIDLAND Jerry Randall Osborne, 71, of Locust, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011. Mr. Osborne was born in Stanly County on Jan. 16, 1940, to the late Dwight George Osborne and the late Elma Elizabeth Furr. Jerry was a graduate of Elon College and worked as a coach and teacher over the years at East Montgomery, Hoke County, and West Stanly High Schools. He served as an Athletic Director and coached baseball, basketball, and football. A special memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. In honor of Jerry's life as a teacher and coach for 34 years, the family would like to invite anyone in the community, whether you knew Jerry as a coach, teacher, colleague, family member, or just as a friend, to share thoughts or stories with us during the memorial service. In the spirit of celebration and tribute, the family also invites any and all to bring your favorite ball cap or jersey from the past years to share with us. Friends will have an opportunity to pay their respects to the family after the memorial service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Cemetery, Locust. Rev. Ronnie Russell will officiate. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Kris R. Osborne, and brother, D.G. Osborne. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sherry Deese Osborne; daughter, Dionne Osborne of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Kannon Osborne, Nolan Broome, and Piper Broome; sister, Trenna Huneycutt of Stanfield; and daughter-in-law, Carrie Osborne Broome and husband, James, of Fort Mill, S.C.
