Death
CALLIE ROUSSEAU BROWN Age 101, daughter of Able Rousseau and Katharine Ford Rousseau, and a descendent of Florida pioneers passed away on August 25, 2011. She was born on April 4, 1910 in Boynton Beach, FL and has resided with her daughter in Indiana for the past several years. Her husband, William Hugh Brown; her son-in-law, William David Furr; three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Callie Rousseau Brown was a graduate of Florida State College for Women (FSU) and received her Master's from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. She had a teaching career which spanned 38 years, including one year on a Fulbright Grant as an exchange teacher in England. At 97 years of age she published a book, Sun on my Hair, Sand in my Shoes, an autobiography of her life in Florida. She was a member of Boynton Beach Woman's Club, First United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Seminole Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Order of Eastern Star, the Huguenot Society and the English Speaking Union of Indianapolis. Mrs. Brown is survived by her three children, Elisabeth Brown Furr, William David (Jacquelin) Brown and Ellen Brown (Brian) Curtin; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of U.S. Hwy. #1 & N.E. 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, Boynton Beach. Interment will follow at Boynton Beach Memorial Park.
