Death

STATESVILLE Mary Cathene Hilton Arndt, 88, of Statesville, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. Born April 10, 1923, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Will Hilton and Nora Shuford Hilton. She was a member of Mt. View United Methodist Church in Claremont and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ray Von Arndt, and two brothers, T.A. Hilton and Gene Hilton. Survivors include two daughters, Gail Arndt Furr and her husband, Thomas Furr, Jr. of Charlotte, and Mary Arndt Moore of Charlotte; three sisters, Helen Leatherman and Betty Shook, of Hickory; Billie Benfield, of Newton, and one brother, Jimmie Hilton, of Newton. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 25, at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover. The Rev. Richard Irwin will officiate and burial will be held in Mt. View United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, prior to the service, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association , 222 S.
