Death

STATESVILLE - Ray Von Arndt, 85, of Statesville, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. Born Nov. 24, 1923, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Floyd A. Arndt and Jessie Sigmon Arndt. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Kimberly. He was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church in Claremont. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Carroll Arndt and Willis Arndt. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary "Cathene" Hilton Arndt; daughters, Gail Furr and her husband, Thomas Furr Jr., and Mary Moore, all of Charlotte. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in the chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Conover, with the Rev. Richard Irwin officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery in Claremont. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., at the funeral home.
