Death
CLAUDE - Robert Glen Davis, 87, went to his Heavenly home on Monday, April 11, 2011. Graveside services will be held at Claude Cemetery at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2011, with Cary Pratt officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Claude. Glen was born July 3, 1923, in Morris, Okla., to Peter Lee and Essie Furr Davis. He attended Morris High School until 1941 when he moved to San Francisco to work building ships for use in World War II. He enlisted in the Navy and served aboard two battleships, the USS South Dakota and USS Wisconsin. He married Frankie Flowers on March 19, 1956, and they lived in California until moving to Claude in 1978. Glen was very athletic in his youth, lettering in all sports in high school and played baseball into his '40s. He was a fan of the L.A. Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys. He worked as a machinist in the aerospace industry, retiring form Pantex in 1986. Glen committed his life to the Lord at age 37 and was active in the church in several capacities until his illness. He was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church. He loved God and his family, always looking forward to family gatherings at the holidays and other special occasions. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Frankie; his children, Patricia Martin and husband Page of Glendora, Calif., Janet Purkett of Eagle Point, Ore., Glenda Arney and husband Randy of Claude, and Jim Davis and wife Lezlie of Canyon. Glen was "Poppy" to two granddaughters; nine grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons; a niece and nephew; and several cousins. The family would like to thank the staffs of Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude, the Texan Rehab and Nursing Home in Amarillo, and BSA Hospice, for their loving care of Glen during his long, difficult journey with Alzheimers. The family suggests memorials be to Trinity Fellowship Building Fund, 5000 Hollywood Road, Amarillo, TX 79118; BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105; or charity of your choice. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Boxwell Brothers Claude Chapel. Leave online condolences at www.boxwellbrothers.com.Amarillo Globe-News, April 13, 2011
