Notes
Death
FURR, William William Joseph "Bill" Furr, 89, of Dallas, TX passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 18th at his home in Dallas, TX. Bill was born January 9, 1937 to Joseph Nelson "Pap" and Jessie Mae "Nunie" Furr in Wisner, LA where he attended the local public schools and graduated valedictorian. Bill went on to graduate from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering and was inducted into the Phi Epsilon Tau Honor Society for Petroleum Engineering students. Bill was a proud member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and might have been LSU's biggest fan. After graduation, Bill moved to New Orleans where he worked for Freeport-McMoRan as a Petroleum Engineer. Bill met and married the love of his life Christine on March 5, 1966 in New Orleans, LA. In February 1976, Bill went to work for Hunt Oil Company where he spent the next 27 years, and was best known for his role in establishing the first successful crude oil production in North Yemen and oversaw the establishment of a pipeline and refinery for Yemen Hunt Oil Co. Bill retired from Hunt Oil Company in Dallas, TX on June 1, 2003, as Vice President of International Drilling so that he could spend more time with his grandchildren. Over the course of his life, Bill was known as a leader and mentor to all of those around him. Somehow, Bill always found time for community and family. Bill led by example and never followed - he gave 110% to whatever he committed to, gently expected the same from, and genuinely wished success for, all of those lives that he touched. Likewise, Bill was a successful Scoutmaster, Little League Baseball coach, father and grandfather. In all of his professional and volunteer endeavors, Bill earned countless awards, and recognitions. Bill will be best remembered by family, friends and co-workers for his honesty, integrity, loyalty, quick wit and love for family. Bill truly lived by the "Golden Rule" and made countless friends wherever he went around the globe because of this guiding principle. In his retirement, Bill did what he loved most - playing golf, traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren - he never missed a volleyball tournament. But, what brought Bill the most pleasure in retirement was spending every hour of every day with his wife, Chris. Bill is preceded in death by his son, William Mark Furr, parents Joseph Nelson and Jessie Mae Furr and his older brother, Gerald Furr. He is survived by his wife Christine Furr, daughter Victoria Kanaan and husband Ramzi Kanaan of Dallas, TX, son Robert Scott and wife Helen of Tampa, FL, sister-in-law Cissie Furr of Baton Rouge, LA, brother James Furr and sister-in-law Jo Furr of Houston, TX, granddaughters Sophia and Chloe Kanaan of New York, NY, grandson Dorian Furr and granddaughters Livia and Hannalea Furr of Tampa, FL. Bill is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved very much. Services will be held on February 19, 2026 at 1:00 P.M at Highland Park United Methodist Church Sanctuary with Rev. Arville E. McLain officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Michael J. Fox Foundation at www.michaeljfox.org.Endnotes
