Death
Kannapolis, Sept. 29. -— Funeral services for Charles Eugene Furr, 5 year old son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Furr, were held this morning at 11 o'clock at the home of Ernest Clark on Gay street. The youngster died in a Salisbury hospital Sunday as a result of injuries sustained when he was struck by an automobile driven by L. R. Barnhardt, of Salisbury, Friday Afternoon. A coroner's jury here Monday afternoon freed Mr. Barnhardt of blame in connection with the child's death, Evidence at the hearing, which was held at the city hall, showed Mr. Barnhardt did not see the child before the accident occurred and rendered all possible aid to the injured child, the testimony showed. Witnesses called included Mr. Barnhardt, Walter Tesh, Kannapolis police officer who investigated the occurrence; G. C. Crowe, J. A. Dayvault, W. P. Shumaker, Lawrence staton, Clyde Eudy, T. C. Brown, all of whom were in the neighborhood when the car struck the child on the Concord-Kannapolis highway just south of Carolina service station. Serving on the coroner's jury were Ervin Durham, Tom Widenhouse, Glenn Deal, R. B. Lee, R. G. McGuirt, J. H. Robinson. Coroner Mitchell said the child had a broken left arm and broken left leg in addition to injuries on the head and body. He is survived by his uncle, Ernest Clark, with whom he lived, a younger brother, Gary Martin Furr, 3, grandmother, Mrs. Addie Clark; aunt, Miss Louise Clark; grandfather, M. M.
