Death
Mrs. Myrtle M. Cheek, 68, of Charlotte died March 20, 1998, at her residence.. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at McEwen Charlotte Chapel with the Rev. William Saylor officiating. Interment will be in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Cheek was born Nov. 17, 1929 in Wadesboro, a daughter of Ernest S. McLendon of Wadesboro, NC, and the late Bernice Faulkner McLendon. She was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. She attended Wadesboro Elementary and High Schools. She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society, a volunteer for United Way and served as chairperson. She was a lifetime blood donor for the American Red Cross, was formerly associated with the Mecklenburg Mental Health and later for Carolina Medical Center Public health in the Clerical/administrative Division. In addition to her father, survivors include her husband, William F. Cheek Sr. to whom she was married 36 years; daughters, Frances A. Howard of Brandon, FL, Patricia Bumgarner of Charlotte and Lisa Armfield of Monroe, NC; son, William F. Cheek Jr. of Spindale, NC; sister, Ruby Moore of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, Samuel McLendon of Tuscaloosa, AL; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.
