CONCORD - Carroll Eugene "Shine" Simpson, 85, of Concord, passed away at CMC-NorthEast on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009. He was born on Dec. 17, 1923, to the late James Houston and the late Betty Whitley Simpson and grew up in Cabarrus County. He worked for Cannon Mills and later for Kerr Bleachery for more than 30 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Dad was a good father and loved just being at home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Lynn Cash officiating. Burial will be in the Roberta Baptist Church Cemetery in Concord. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Callie Aycock Simpson, and brothers, Fred, Brice and June Simpson. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Dellinger and husband, William; grandchildren, Dale and Kenneth Furr, of Concord, and Darrell Furr, of Oakboro; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Betty Lynch, of Mississippi; and brothers, James, Mickey, Boyce and David Simpson. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
